DefenderShield's New Airtube Earphones 2022 Review

We've recently got our hands on Defendershields new airtube earphones and after putting them through their paces over the past week, we're here to give you the run down.

Defendershield have been leaders in electromagnetic field (EMF) blocking technology for many years now, from laptop pads to phone cases, they have you covered. Electromagnectic fields are a form of non-ionising radiation that is emitted from electrical devices such as your phone, laptop, or even the powerlines in your home.

This type of radiation has been linked to a variety of health issues including: headaches, fatigue, anxiety and brain fog. EMF exposure is something we can't avoid in today's world, but there are steps we can take to minimize our exposure.

One way to do this is by using EMF blocking headphones, such as the new airtube earphones from Defendershield. These earphones use an airtube design which helps to minimize your exposure to EMF radiation. Traditional earphones use a wire cable which conducts the radiation up to your head which is why we always recommend airtube head or earphones when you're on the go or working.

So without furtherado, let's get into the review.

Unboxing & Design

You'll be pleasantly surprised when you open your DefenderShield earphone package. You'll get a solid case and a small soft pouch that you can use to put your earphones in and/or adapters in. Speaking of adapters, you should have no problem finding the perfect fit. DefenderShield provides a variety of different sizes including hooked adapters if you want something more snug while you're exercising. Personally we found the default size of adapter fitted perfectly and should work well for most people. This new pair just feels more comfortable than the last generation model.

One thing we particularly like about these earphones is that you can happily take your calls via the inline microphone. Ease to use and conveniently placed buttons means you'll have no problem in this department, whether you're taking a regular phone call or chatting to someone on zoom via your laptop. 1 click to play, pause and answers calls, 2 clicks to skip tracks, 3 clicks to go to the previous tracks and long press for voice assistant.

Here's the full run down on the specs:

  • EMF radiation-free technology via hollow air tubes rather than traditional wires.

  • Braided nylon cord is infused with copper for additional protection from Extremely Low Frequency (ELF) radiation.

  • Air-filled hollow tubes increase space for tone development, producing body and delivering a superior acoustic audio.

  • Built-in hands-free microphone with audio controls.

  • Highly flexible yet strong air tubes and tangle-free braided nylon cord.

  • Interchangeable sport tips and clip to keep earbuds securely in place while playing sports, exercising or running.

  • Small, medium and large silicone ear tips for a custom fit.

Sound Quality

We really enjoyed the sound quality of the original DefenderShield earphones we tested a few years ago and their latest pair was no exception. We put them through their paces on a variety of different tracks to get a good idea of how they sound across music genres. They have a rich and full sound that is perfect for listening to music or watching movies but particularly excel in the base department. If you're after something 'punchy' then these are the earphones to get.

As airtube earphones have a thicker cable at certain points, you will need to be a bit more mindful when you're exercising with them. However, by using the clip and the correct silicone ear adapter, you should be able to find a comfortable spot for them even if you're running.

You don't need to worry about how loud these earphones can get as they can get very loud but we would recommend keeping the volume below 65 dB to look after your ears, unless you need a bit of extra volume to get you through your final bit of work!

Overall we’re really pleased with DefenderShields new earphones, they continue to make high quality gear in this department. A lot of airtube headphones we’ve tested have had a slightly fragile or cheap feel but DefenderShields really feel like you’re holding something more premium and the sound they produce is no exception. Two thumbs up from us!
